Janet Longmore, President and CEO, Digital Opportunity Trust
Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) Janet Longmore is the Founder and President & CEO of Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT). Over her twenty-five year career, Janet has been involved in inventing new approaches and creating sustainable solutions with a clear ambition to change less fortunate societies for the better. In the 1990's, as CEO of the largest agency for at-risk youth in the USA, she led the creation of multi-sector partnerships that successfully brought, for the first time, technology training to thousands of inner city and rural youth. In 2002, Janet founded DOT with the mission of bringing similar technology and entrepreneurial training to keen youth leaders in developing countries around the world. She had an idea that with their motivation and ability to learn new technology, and their desire to help others, the youth in these communities could help bridge the digital divide and help develop the economy in their own communities. With successful programs in Jordan, Lebanon, Kenya, Ethiopia, and communities in the United States devastated by Hurricane Katrina, it is not surprising Janet and DOT were approached by IBM to implement their new Corporate Service Corps initiative in Turkey, China and Egypt, and to again partner with CISCO to bring the successful DOT TeachUp! program to the earthquake-affected region in China, and most recently to schools in Mexico. Janet is a member of the Strategy Council of the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID) and has been a featured speaker at numerous ICT for development conferences. |
