Ingrid Khouzam Ellis, Prof. Environmental Techniques and Technology, La Cité Collégiale

Stream 1: Management of Products Using “Cradle to Cradle” Philosophy (La Cité Collégiale) , 3:30 pm

Ms. Khouzam Ellis graduated from Carleton University with a BScHon. in Environmental Sciences after which she spent a few months volunteering in Costa Rica. When she returned she began her career working with Friends of the Earth, a non profit environmental advocacy group, and eventually accepted a position at Environment Canada. There, she acquired vast experience in the field of environment, from advising international organisations and governments on greening their operations, to working as an Environmental Effects Monitoring (EEM) Officer, collecting and analysing data from Canadian pulp and paper mills. During this time she obtained her International MBA at the University of Ottawa pursued her career as an Environment Specialist at the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). Her duties included advising private sector organisations on integrating environmental considerations into CIDA-funded projects, and ensuring that environmental impact assessments and environmental management plans were properly conducted and implemented in the field. She also worked with a team of specialists to develop CIDA's environmental policies and strategies, specifically with regards to strategic environmental assessments. Ms. Khouzam Ellis eventually returned to Environment Canada to work on Canada's Chemicals Management Plan as Head of the Toxics Control Unit, Consumer Products Division, where she collaborated with the private sector on the development and implementation of risk management tools and instruments under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999. Ms. Khouzam Ellis recently accepted the position of Professor of Environment at La Cité Collégiale. Her functions include developing the second year of the College's Environmental Technician and Technologist programs (to be launched in September 2010), working with the Recruitment and Communications team to promote the program at a variety of venues, and teaching.
