| Canada's Oceans in the Global Environment: Dan Lane, Telfer School of Management Introduced in 1997, the Canada Oceans Act sought to define Canada's position with respect to our 3 oceans, Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic. The Act is an enabling act in that it seeks to engage the community in the establishment of evolving oceans policy and management for sustainability and improved understanding. The Act clearly places Canada in a world setting - our oceans are linked globally - with all the responsibilities attached to sustainable governance. This talk will explore how Canada, and Fisheries and Oceans, Canada (lead agency on the Oceans Act) is responding to the demands of our changing global oceans environment. |
